Educational Lasers

Industrial Fiber Optics is a leading American manufacturer of low-power educational lasers. We began making lab lasers with semiconductor diodes in the early ‘90s as a preferred alternative to helium neon lasers for communication demonstrations. From the early days our signature design included attractive, bright blue, see-through, impact-resistance acrylic enclosures (see photo at right). The color alone had eye appeal to students to interest them in laser technology. We call the laser product line with this signature design our CT (short for Cerulean Tech) laser series.

In 2004 we acquired the educational laser line from Metrologic Instruments, long a major player in that laser educational market. Metrologic sold us this product line because of our commitment to the educational business and our high quality. (Metrologic Instruments now focuses on laser bar code scanning and related technology.) Since purchasing the Metrologic line, we have upgraded, improved many of the products and rewritten instruction manuals while retaining the conventional engineering-type packaging that made these products such a success. Our laser product line now includes:
• Diode communications lasers
• Full line of educational helium-neon lasers
• Laser pointers (Class II and IIIa); red and green light
• Metrologic lasers
• Diode pumped solid state lasers

LASER SELECTION
Attempting to compare all the makes and models of lasers in today’s market can be confusing at best. In general, helium neon lasers are the preferred choice if long coherence length and wavelength stability are needed for optical interferometric experiments. Diode lasers are the best choice for communications or fiber optic experiments. Laser pointers are best of easy and simple experiments, but often lack the longevity and physical structure for long term lab use. Questions?
